With my impeding border crossing with Western Australian closing in I finally set off from Glenelg in Adelaide and headed west.
Join me and my Jeep, Delilah, as we journey across the Nullabor from South to Western Australia. After a bit of a mad dash to get over the Western Australia border before it closed (due to COVID-19) we journeyed from Adelaide to the York Peninsula to get the Sea Bridge Ferry across to the Eyre Peninsula (cutting 2 hours travel time off and giving me 2 hours break... plus I hadn't done it before). From there we headed North to Kimba.
From Kimba I had planned to go to Lake Gairdner (a huge salt lake where several land speed records were set), however, due to a huge deluge of rain the tracks up to Lake Gairdner were all closed, so I continued on. From Kimba we travelled to the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula where I stopped off to see the Talia Caves - the track down there was a bit bumpy and the negative battery terminal on Delilah came loose. Returning to Delilah after taking some photos the Jeep was all but dead.
Not responding to anything I quickly thought the issue was electrical. Checking the battery with my multimeter, which showed 12.9v, I was stumped. I managed to call the RAA roadside service with what little signal I had and they were sending someone out. However, after a phone call with a mate who told me to check the battery terminals we were back in business and I cancelled the RAA callout. This all took time and meant instead of heading to Ceduna that night I only made it to Streaky Bay.
...this meant I had a long day's drive to Eucla the following day - the day I had permission to cross the WA border. The main element of the episode, above, picks up from here and the main parts of the Nullabor crossing. A funny (although not at the time) story about my trip to the Head of the Bight, a sightseeing stop well worth the visit, is summarised and other Great Australian Bight lookouts highlighted. Following on from crossing the border it then rained and rained as we drove across the Nullabor, each attraction closed due to the deluge of rain. So Delilah and I simply drove all the way to Balladonia at the Western end of the Nullabor crossing. I hope you enjoy this episode, in future I will do much more in depth videos but this was all a bit rushed in the end.
Until next time 'get out there' and enjoy what this world has to offer! Have questions? feel free to ask away in the comments or email me at rossevansau@gmail.com, I will answer when I have signal. Next episode we head North to the Goldfields of WA, have a walk around of what Delilah has had modified and what she is carrying and a visit a gold mine or two.
